JCurve Operations

About

We are named after the part everyone else skips.

A J curve dips before it climbs. Every operational change your MSP makes will cost you before it pays you. That is not a risk to be managed away — it is the shape of the work.

The name

Cost first. Return after.

Consultants are usually gone by the trough. The diagnostic was sharp, the target model was elegant, the invoice cleared, and then your team was left holding a change that made month four worse than month one.

We built the engagement around the trough instead of around the deck. That is why the charter names the month the dip lands, why the retainer runs into it, and why the fee is linked to what comes out the other side.

Fit

Who this works for.

A good fit

  • Managed service providers between roughly 15 and 200 seats of internal headcount
  • Growing, and feeling it — the operation that worked at 40 clients is failing at 90
  • An owner or MD who will sit in a weekly number review and not send a delegate
  • Willing to be told the uncomfortable version first
  • Ready to let two or three things get worse for a quarter so the rest gets better

A poor fit

  • Looking for a report to satisfy an investor rather than a change to run
  • Mid-acquisition, where the operating model is about to be someone else’s decision
  • Needing hands on tickets — we change how the desk runs, we do not staff it
  • Unable to name an owner for any metric, which usually means the real problem is upstream of operations
  • Wanting AI added to the marketing rather than to the operation

People

Who you actually get.

The person who runs your diagnostic is the person in your weekly review at month seven. We do not hand engagements down to a delivery team.

Leadership

J Curve Operations

J Curve Operations is built on more than 30 years in IT, from running IT operations in remote, high-stakes environments to leading a major hospital IT merger. Rather than defaulting to what a typical MSP prescribes, we start by understanding what the client actually needs.

We build highly effective teams by taking a human-first approach: we invest in understanding what motivates each person and hire people who are hungry to grow, both professionally and personally. That is how we know which levers to pull to bring order to chaos. Our leadership has grown one MSP to twice its original size and turned another from negative EBITDA to more than 25% EBITDA in just 60 days.

We have distilled that experience into a repeatable, proven system, backed by the confidence that there is no operation we cannot improve.

Commercials

How we are paid, in plain terms.

DIAGNOSTIC

Fixed fee

Three weeks, one price, quoted before we start. You keep everything it produces whether or not you continue.

BUILD

Retainer

Monthly, capped, with a defined number of builds in the queue. Cancellable at 30 days with the work handed over.

THROUGH THE TROUGH

Outcome-linked

A portion tied to agreed movement against the baseline. If the number does not move, we do not get the whole fee.

No vendor commission, no resale margin, no referral fees. If a product is the right answer we will name it and step out of the transaction.

Start small

Have the uncomfortable conversation early.

Thirty minutes on a call, then three weeks if it makes sense. We will tell you if we are the wrong answer.
